Chapter Eight

Dakota snuggled up to Reed in his warm, soft bed. It turned out that Reed was a cuddler. He loved that. He couldn’t even remember the last time he’d slept in a lover’s arms. Guys would crash after sex if they were too tired to go home and Dakota wasn’t mean, so he didn’t kick them out of bed. But it wasn’t the same as being held while you slept with someone who cared about you.

He was tired to his bones. Drained. It was great that he’d been sucked off. He’d really needed it—he’d been so wound up from the day. He smiled against Reed’s furry chest, the even rhythm of his breathing telling him that he’d finally dozed off.

So sweet.

Reed’s mouth on him had been soft and good, the lack of experience obvious, but so had been his enjoyment. And anyway, there was no such thing as a bad blow job, just ones with more finesse. The way Reed had loved on him had made him feel special. That was another thing he hadn’t experienced in a long time. It was his turn to be with someone who was his, and his alone.

He drifted off, his thoughts filled with fantasies of what it might be like to have Reed as a real boyfriend. It seemed as if he’d barely fallen asleep, when somewhere in the background of his mind a loud clattering could be heard. It grew stronger, nearer. Dakota screamed, shooting up in bed, sleep torn from him by a resounding boom. A sharp flash pierced the darkness and the windows rattled from the force of the thunder.

“Hey.” Reed tugged him against his strong frame, his heat a balm as he wrapped his arms around Dakota. “Are you scared of thunderstorms?”

“No, I’m not. But Donny…” Tears welled. “Oh, Jesus. I have to go get him. He’s terrified of thunder and lightning.” Dakota shoved the covers aside. “I can’t wait until I look for him tomorrow, I have to go find him now. He won’t be able to stand this.”

Reed let him loose. “Give me a sec and I’ll go with you.”

“What?”

Dakota froze where he stood, perplexed as Reed turned on the nightstand light, shuffling around as he searched for something to wear.

“Babe, you don’t have to do this. I’m so sorry I woke you up.”

“Nonsense. I won’t be able to go back to sleep anyway.”

Dakota jumped as another blinding streak of light lit up the room for a split second, followed by a deep rumble. “O-okay. You’re the best.”

They finished dressing in silence, Dakota bemoaning the fact that he hadn’t brought a rain jacket. He pulled out his comfy sweatshirt. The only jacket he had with him was a buttery-soft, red leather, and there was no way he’d wear that in the drenching rain.

Reed flipped the light switch on in his living room area, and Dakota followed him there. He watched as Reed gathered his wallet, keys and phone, comforted by his lover’s support when he really needed him.
